9/11

Has it already been 6 years? I still recall being woken up that morning by my mother telling me the World trade center was on fire. I thought she was just lying to me in order to wake me up to do something. Sure enough though it was real. The towers really were on fire and fell a few hours later. It was a huge loss of Innocent life that day.

Sadly after all these years most of my fellow Americans still don't understand fully why it happened. Yes it was caused by Terrorists, but why? why did they hate us so much that they gave up their own lives to take so many with them? Partially to make a statement, but that just opens up another set of questions. and sadly everyone has twisted the massage to their own means.

And so 6 years later what has changed? The cost in Innocent human life from this conflict has continued to increase. Not in the United States but shifted elsewhere in the world to Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere. Aside from that we've also lost a tremendous number of our solders in the conflict. What progress have we made? we've still got just as many threats out there as before if not more, and we're still in fear of another attack. In my opinion this is a greater disservice to the memories of all those lost then anything else, the lack of any significant change.

And thus maybe on this 6th anniversary of such a tragic day we should take a moment in silence no only to remember all those lost but to think deeply about the future and how truly to prevent such tragic incidents from happening again. Because the only true solution to hate is care and understanding.
